Halo 5: Guardians

halo 5 guardians xbox

Halo 5: Guardians is a 2015 first-person shooter game developed by 343 Industries, published by Microsoft Studios, and released on October 27, 2015, worldwide for the Xbox One.

The plot revolves around two human supersoldier fireteams: Blue Team, led by Master Chief, and Fireteam Osiris, led by Spartan Locke. When the former goes missing without leave to find the artificial intelligence construct Cortana, Master Chief's loyalty is called into question, and Fireteam Osiris is dispatched to find him.

Microsoft announced the game at the 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo. The game and its related hardware grossed over $400 million in its first twenty-four hours and $500 million in its first week, outselling Halo 4, which held the franchise's best-selling record at the time.

It's also the best-selling Xbox One game in the world. Despite this, it had the lowest first-day sales of any Halo game in Japan and the United Kingdom. Critics overwhelmingly praised Halo 5 upon its release, praising its gameplay, visuals, level design, and multiplayer modes.

The game's single-player campaign, on the other hand, elicited mixed reactions, with criticism directed at its story, writing, and ending. Halo Infinite, the sequel, was released on December 8, 2021.

The game retains many of the core gameplay elements of the Halo franchise. Players take control of a Spartan by stepping into his MJOLNIR-powered armor. MJOLNIR armor has deflector shields that deplete while protecting the wearer from weapon fire but recharge after a short recovery period.

Spartans can only carry two personal weapons at once, but they can swap them out for any other weapon they find (including those dropped by slain enemies) at any time, and they can also carry and fire a crew-served weapon (discarded when the player switches back to a personal weapon).

Spartans can also throw grenades and whip their opponents with their weapons. Finally, some of the vehicles and mounted weapons are operational.

The game is based on previous mods created by Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene for other games and expanded into a standalone game under Greene's creative direction. It was inspired by the 2000 Japanese film Battle Royale. Up to one hundred players parachute onto an island and scavenge for weapons and equipment to kill other players while avoiding being killed themselves. The game's map's available safe area shrinks over time, directing surviving players into an ever-shrinking space to force encounters.

The round is won by the last surviving player (or team). The game is the first in the PUBG Universe series.

PUBG: Battlegrounds is the best-selling video game on PC and Xbox One, and the fifth best-selling video game of all time, having sold over 75 million copies on personal computers and game consoles as of the end of 2021. Since January 2022, the main game has been available for free.

While the game had some technical flaws, critics found that it presented new types of gameplay that could be easily approached by players of any skill level and was highly replayable. The game was credited with popularizing the battle royale genre, with a slew of unofficial Chinese clones following its success. Among other honors, the game received several Game of the Year nominations. PUBG Corporation has held a number of small tournaments and introduced in-game tools to assist with broadcasting the game to spectators in the hopes of making it a popular esport.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a Rockstar Games action-adventure game released in 2018. The game is the third in the Red Dead series and a prequel to Red Dead Redemption, which was released in 2010. The plot takes place in 1899 and follows the exploits of outlaw Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van der Linde gang, in a fictionalized version of the Western, Midwestern, and Southern United States. Arthur must deal with the Wild West's decline while attempting to survive against government forces, rival gangs, and other threats. The epilogue of Red Dead Redemption follows fellow gang member John Marston, the protagonist of the game.

The game is presented in both first and third person, and the player is free to explore its interactive open world. Shootouts, heists, hunting, horseback riding, interacting with non-player characters, and maintaining the character's honor rating through moral choices and deeds are all game elements. The response of law enforcement and bounty hunters to crimes committed by the player is governed by a bounty system similar to the "wanted" system from the Grand Theft Auto franchise. The game's online multiplayer mode, Red Dead Online, allows up to 32 players to participate in a variety of cooperative and competitive game modes.

Red Dead Redemption 2 broke several records and had the second-biggest launch in the history of entertainment, generating US$725 million in sales from its opening weekend and exceeding Red Dead Redemption's lifetime sales in two weeks. It received critical acclaim, with praise focused on the story, characters, open world, graphics, music, and level of detail; some criticism focused on the control scheme and emphasis on realism over player freedom. It won year-end accolades, including Game of the Year awards from several gaming publications, and is regarded as an example of video games as an art form as well as one of the greatest video games ever made.

It is also one of the best-selling video games, having sold over 45 million copies.

Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V ( GTA 5 ) is a 2013 action-adventure game published by Rockstar Games and developed by Rockstar North. Following 2008's Grand Theft Auto IV, it is the seventh main entry in the Grand Theft Auto series and the fifteenth overall. The single-player story follows three protagonists—retired bank robber Michael De Santa, street gangster Franklin Clinton, and drug dealer and gunrunner Trevor Philips—as they attempt to commit heists while under pressure from a corrupt government agency and powerful criminals in the fictional state of San Andreas, which is based on Southern California. The open world design allows players to freely roam the open countryside of San Andreas and the fictional city of Los Santos, which is based on Los Angeles.

The game can be played in either third-person or first-person mode, and the world can be explored on foot or by vehicle. Throughout single-player, players control the three main protagonists and can switch between them both during and outside of missions. The heist sequences are central to the plot, and many missions involve shooting and driving gameplay. A "wanted" system governs the aggressiveness with which law enforcement responds to criminals. The game's online multiplayer mode, Grand Theft Auto Online, allows up to 30 players to participate in a variety of cooperative and competitive game modes.

The game, which was heavily promoted and widely anticipated, broke industry sales records and became the fastest-selling entertainment product in history, earning $800 million in its first day and $1 billion in its first three days. It received widespread praise for its multiple protagonist design, open world, presentation, and gameplay. However, it sparked debate due to its depiction of violence and women. It won year-end accolades, including Game of the Year awards from several gaming publications, and is regarded as one of the most significant titles in seventh and eighth generation console gaming, as well as one of the best video games ever made.

It is the second best-selling video game of all time, with over 169 million copies sold, and one of the most financially successful entertainment products of all time, with approximately $6 billion in worldwide revenue as of April 2018.

Dragon's Dogma

Dragon's Dogma

Dragon's Dogma is a 2012 action role-playing hack and slash video game released by Capcom for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, an improved version, was released in 2013 for the game's original consoles, and was later ported to Microsoft Windows in 2016, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2017, and Nintendo Switch in 2019. Set in the high fantasy world of Gransys, the player assumes the role of the Arisen, a human protagonist on a quest to defeat the dragon Grigori, a being said to herald the end of the world, while uncovering a deeper conspiracy along the way.

The Arisen—a customizable avatar—explores Gransys, completing quests and fighting monsters in real-time combat. The protagonist is accompanied by Pawns, which are characters that provide combat support and advice; the protagonist has one customized Pawn and two additional Pawns that are either pre-set within the game or shared by other players via an online lobby. Standard combat and boss battles both require grappling or climbing on enemies.

Critics praised the original Dragon's Dogma version. The gameplay and the Pawn system were praised, but the narrative was generally criticized as lacking. The technical improvements and additional content in the Dark Arisen version were praised. The original Dragon's Dogma sold over one million copies worldwide, and the various versions of Dark Arisen also did well. Dragon's Dogma Online, a Japan-only massively multiplayer online role-playing game, was released in 2015. In 2020, an original net animation adaptation was released globally on Netflix. A sequel, Dragon's Dogma II, is in the works.

Devil May Cry 5

Devil May Cry 5

Capcom's Devil May Cry 5 is an action-adventure game released in 2019. It is the sixth installment in the Devil May Cry series overall and the fifth mainline installment. On March 8, 2019, Capcom released it for the PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One. The game takes place five years after Devil May Cry 4 and follows a trio of warriors with demonic abilities, including the returning Dante, Nero, and a new protagonist named V, as they attempt to prevent the Demon King Urizen from destroying the human world. The player can use these characters in various missions throughout their journey in Red Grave City. Each of them has a unique strategy for fighting and growing stronger.

As this occurs, the mystery surrounding V, as well as his connection to Urizen, is revealed.

Hideaki Itsuno directed Devil May Cry 5, with the goal of making it his best work yet. He aimed to balance the game for both new and returning players by including a variety of difficulties and challenges. Capcom also wanted to bring a more realistic design inspired by their previous work, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. As a result, the characters' faces were created using real people. Bingo Morihashi, a returning writer, wrote the plot, and the setting was based on various locations in London. Several composers collaborated to create the game's audio, creating three main themes centered on the playable characters.

Critics praised Devil May Cry 5 for its gameplay variety, depth, portrayal of its returning characters, and handling of the narrative. The game won multiple game awards in both 2019 and 2020, sold over two million copies in less than two weeks, three million in a year, and five million by April 2022, becoming the franchise's best-selling game. A light novel and manga based on the game were also released. In November 2020, an expanded version called Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition[b] was released for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, with the addition of Vergil as a playable character. The player assumes the role of a Hunter in the game, tasked with hunting down and either killing or trapping monsters that roam in one of several environmental spaces. If successful, the player is rewarded with loot that includes monster parts and other elements that can be used to craft weapons and armor, among other things.

The core loop of the game involves the player crafting appropriate gear in order to hunt down more difficult monsters, which provide parts that lead to more powerful gear. The game's online multiplayer allows players to hunt alone or in groups of up to four.

Monster Hunter: World received positive reviews upon its initial release, with critics praising Capcom's ability to make the game more accessible to new players and Western markets while maintaining the series' core gameplay elements and enjoyable difficulty, and fully utilizing the computational capacity of modern consoles to create living ecosystems, with some even calling it the best in the franchise. Monster Hunter: World is Capcom's best-selling game ever, with over 21 million copies sold by July 2022. Iceborne, a DLC expansion pack for home consoles released in September 2019 and for Windows in January 2020, sold over 9.2 million copies by May 2022.

Monster Hunter Rise, the next mainline installment, was co-developed alongside World and was announced for a worldwide release on Nintendo Switch in March 2021, with a Microsoft Windows version following the following year.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is a survival horror game released in 2017 by Capcom. Ethan Winters is controlled by the player as he searches for his long-missing wife in a derelict plantation occupied by an infected family, solving puzzles and fighting enemies. It is also compatible with the PlayStation VR headset. The game received generally positive reviews and was regarded as a return to form for the series; critics praised the gameplay, innovation, and use of virtual reality, but some criticized the boss battles and final chapter. The game had sold 11 million copies worldwide as of June 2022. It was nominated for a number of end-of-year awards. Resident Evil Village, the sequel, was released on May 7, 2021.
